This game, however, had me genuinely intrigued about what the heck was going on with this strange mother/robot-son relationship, the whole ruling the world thing, and just about every other element of the story. However, I think the best part of the story was that nothing was ever explicitly given away, so that I get to draw my own conclusions.
Anyway, very nice game. Even if the gameplay itself was a little too familiar to “Robot wants (blank)” series for it's own good, I definitely enjoyed it much more, simply because I felt I was playing through a thoughtfully crafted work of art, rather than a tired old child's toy. 4/5
P.S. I totally agree with the title of the game! I was thinking that for about 80% of the game! I'll laugh every time I see one of the games in that series now! =)
Excellent music. Not overtly creepy, but gave the feeling of a lonely, insecure atmosphere. Fresh visuals. (The backgrounds look like mosaic Damascus steel to me.) I loved how different it felt thanks to the unusual art style, which was somewhere between the overused (and oft misused) pixel style, and a sleek, rounded, Apple Mac kind of look, combined with the novel "camera" view idea that had the screen moving around as you moved. (Very cool!)
The last thing I loved about this game was the the story. Too many games like this try to be touching/moving by using an unsettling/mysterious art style, and an abstractly tragic story, often coupled with some kind of irrelevant message of hope at the end. Continued...
Oh, yeah, I just thougt I would add that this is the BEST THING ARMOR GAMES HAS EVER DONE; and to not patch/release a sequel would, in my humble opinion, be ridiculous.
This needs an endless survival mode where your balloon is damaged beyound repair on the crash, with more/longer enemy waves, less down-time (since there would be no balloon to repair) and slightly less frequent shop visits. Add that, and keep the current game as a "time attack" mode, and this would be the perfect tower-defense/sidescroll fusion.
Anyway, I hope you do something like that, because this game is refreshingly original, like jumping into a cool pool on a 120 degree summer day. The graphics, music, upgrades, and ability to defend something AND move around is very original and enjoyable.
