Gonna call it probably a glitch but through happiness took over the states from canada, then mexico, after doing so I gained -70 happiness promptly ran out of happiness was invaded and died
Nice start, appears to be an issue that each type of tile registers an upgrade if you by one but other than the one you bought it on you don't get the improved stats. EG I upgraded one plains(grass) and got the 7/2 food, now other plains(grass) show in their stat box that they provide 7/2 food but clicking on them provides nothing as if it were unimproved still at 0/0 and I cannot buy upgrades for it.

Keep an eye on your neighbours military and try and match it, otherwise you're at risk or being insta killed.
