Ooh look, a pretentious indy art game about "how we need love, not hate, MAAAN!" and reducing the complex problems of the world to a bunch of silly stick-figure drawings while offering no solutions. Naturally, its rating is presently at a 4.3 and it has badges. While a lot of really great, brilliant games devs have spent months on have neither.
I absolutely loved the original; it was my favorite free-running game on Kongregatel. However, this sequel is a massive improvement in every way; not content with simply making a similar game with a few bug fixes and new features, you added in loads of new levels, modes, challenges, and ideas. Thanks for an absolutely phenomenal game. My lone complaint is that getting 100% was surprisingly easy; after a fun couple of days of playing, I now eagerly await Rogue Souls 3. :)
I agree with TheChad; it's a generally fun game, but the last boss is just awful. Not only is it completely random whether you can damage him or not (depending on whether you get the red work or not), but he can also JUGGLE you, which is also completely random. Oh, and as a kicker, it's sometimes impossible, based on positioning, to dodge the shots.
So I beat level 4, easily dealing with combos like arrows from behind followed by arrows from ahead, and knowing the vocal cues for duelists, hoplites, and farmers by heart. I was then confident that I can beat anything level 5 has to throw at me, and get another impossible badge. Then I see that there is a new enemy; a spearman pursuing you from behind, who is impossible to kill, and forces you to speed up. Oh, and combined with certain obstacles ahead, there is literally NO WAY to escape death. You win, game.
Not going to lie; the original was one of my favorite games on Kongregate, and this sequel is a huge disappointment, being worse in practically every regard.
The first game was all about going fast and avoiding zombies. The sequel, while having far more features, is all about stopping and starting to pick up civilians, get more weapons, drop civilians off at church, avoid crazy meandering civilians (who take off way too much RP, by the way), etc. It makes the game static and boring. And while a minor complaint, the dialogue is pretty awful, too.
Ferninandito- It's not impossible, but it is extremely difficult, and partially luck-based. That is, you can play level 20 perfectly, and still have a diver or Smuggler sneak through in the first 10 waves because a certain ability didn't proc, there weren't enough gold or mana drops, etc. Even with it being luck-based, you have to optimize your set-up perfectly; go for the lighthouses first, and only then the pirate ships. It took me a ton of tries as well (a couple dozen on the day stage, and I got lucky on my first try on the night stage), but it's doable, albeit poorly designed.
I can't stop laughing at the Jamaican accents of the Stygwears!
On an unrelated note, is there a way to see the hints about light, magic, and heavy armor/attack types? Also, nearby troops sometimes make it impossible to select barracks.
Nevertheless, an excellent game and worthy sequel.
The duration stacks for all debuffs. So applying two memory leaks would make it last twice as long. The Memory Leak and Infector debuffs do stack separately though.
By the way, I'm think it's impossible to get the heart close to Mary in Level 17. Hopping back into the elevator isn't nearly as fast as in your video walkthrough...
Tips for getting the Hard Badge:
1- Max out every stat.
2- Concentrate on getting "smooth" landings on a downward slope from which you can then get very high and quick launches. (Click on the lowest part of the screen, then release when you're on the highest part of the upward slope)
3- Ignore the gems; your goal is to avoid "Ouch" landings at all costs.
4- Land on birds if you can, but for the most part, concentrate on the slopes when you're in the air.
5- Don't alter your path in the air until you're about midway to the ground from your apex. Trying to judge your landing too early is virtually impossible.
That's it. Try to maintain a X5 multiplier at the end of every level, finish the levels as quickly as possibly by going fast and high while avoiding "Ouch" landings, and ignore gems. It still takes a decent amount of practice (took me four days from the time I got the Medium Badge to get the Hard one), but it's doable.
As much as I loved Formula Racer, this honestly feels like a step backwards. For one, the turning is simplified and far less effected by the player hitting the left and right arrows. In fact, all the actual tracks and races are a piece of cake. The sole difficulty of the game results from the challenges, particularly the slaloms, which aren't fun difficult so much as they are frustrating, annoying difficult. It doesn't help that the distribution of things to hit is random, and in some cases, so close to each other that it is impossible to hit both, making certain track challenges virtually impossible on certain attempts.
Whoever decided 30,000 was a good benchmark is a sadist. I died right near the very beginning of Survival Wave 18, which is virtually impossible because of multiple Level 8-style bosses, leaving me with a score of 29,852...
While I found the game very fun and a neat twist on the old Minesweeper concept, there are definitely some obvious improvements. For one thing, as already noted, it can be difficult to see mines and numbers through trees and other parts of the scenery. Secondly, the screen sometimes cuts off valuable portions of the screen where I put down a mine, making me set down an extra mine and inevitably leading to a mistake. Overall, a fine game, but could be improved even further.
Seriously? http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v475/KIMaster/Raze2Mission14.jpg
It's one thing when a mission is hard. It's another when you have a perfect game and still end up losing because your "teammate" AI screws you over time and again.
Tons of bugs, including occasional equipment flcikers when you select them. Also, there is no option to turn off sound and/or music. REALLY?
Worst of all though, the game is just unbelievably boring and repetitive with its battles and occasional grinding to go up a level/get more money.
Many thanks for your kind review.
