this would be fairly simple to expand into a game with multiple characters, if you're interested. the addition of a few more schools of magic would allow you to add new (which here means differently-colored) mages into the mix, with each of them having a group of schools that they're proficient in or able to learn.
i am particularly interested in the ramifications of a death magic group with normal damage spells and a few leeching ones in an aura and/or bolt form. i suppose there could also be a high level passive absorb spell that heals you a bit as you walk over corpses, since there are quite a few of those.

The only thing I wish I could change is to allow status effects on the enemy to be dispelled. After poisoning foes and finding out that they're healed by it, I just feel stupid. In case it's my fault, does anyone know how to tell the difference in the stat box between a foe with high poison resistance and one who actually absorbs poison?
