No, it works like you select which stiles to be shown - default is all and you can hide those which you don't want to include. Then each time youo are presented with a choice of two techniques randomly selected from these styles - hypothetically you can end up with choices of only one style but the chances are small. Yet, this is a draft system so everything is possible.
1 turn is quite rare but yes, it gives some advantage to the bots. Yet all the strateggy is in your hands. In all cases we try to not create a 1 turn moves (the rule is that it needs at least 2 turns to play actually) but in all cases bots reaction is better than players. A new update is coming wich will address some of these issues while preparing the game for the multiplaier.

@DoruTheDragon the food from the warehouse is perment, so you can end up building up to alot of starting food which ignores the need for wells when using workshop because you end up having enough food to level up the workshop to rush the money needed for an army
The new Warehouse effect is fine, if you use the workshop and speed buy up to it then restart, if you keep doing this you can now do workshop instead of well because well is to slow in comparison to the workshop, i start off with 14910 food and can buy up to army within a couple of muintes and now the food issue is instantlty gone
