@MichaelChandra @gurutex I wouldn't have thought it very possible (after my first play on my own before reading comments), but 10/6 without moving Odin City is a good challenge too. Took me just over 18 minutes though. That's one where you actually get angry at the creeper, and just want to beat the piss out of it at the end rather than power up the totems ;-)
Howdy iMiPi! I didn't do the Aug 7 challenge more than once, and don't think my time was sub-10... Probably around 13, I didn't get a screenshot, and my "regular' play time of course is all I can see now. I may try again. My 2nd beat on Aug 10 was 6:19. I tried your no-move challenge too… 8:03! Both balls are back in your court - there’s plenty of time to beat my times :-) @phamen Not sure why you're being downvoted -- I think those are interesting and valid ideas, at least for debate/consideration.
Agree with other posters, Aug-10 is a rare, challenging map. 6:37 my first beat -- will save screenshots for later (mini spoilers) since this is such a good map.
@chilese Good idea! Yes, it's possible. Success on the first try. Still, that was the most fun I think I've ever had on one of the "island" maps (which I don't usually care for). I had to make a retreat or two, until I learned how well blasters act as bulldozers in tandem... deep creeper and shallow creeper aren't all that much different to a few blasters together, at least not as much as I'd have expected. I stayed away from the islands for anything (didn't even use them as a blaster perch), and I didn't use any SAM's either.
@ack4 Beating a level is usually easy (it's like yoga). Beating it most efficiently is the common challenge. Start posting your times, and/or come up with a handicap or limitation that makes the map challenging while still interesting.
July 25 weaponless goes to iMiPi! Post your map iMiPi. I failed in about 4 tries... curious to see what I missed. I was always about 2 seconds short. Good call on that as a challenge chilese.
Oops! Mentida (inadvertent). That was my fourth attempt (not counting the abandoned one, which I guess technically makes 5). fwiw My times were 4:47, 4:00, (abandoned failure), 3:54, 3:53.
I like a challenge, chilese. 3:53 (also my third attempt, with one "abandoned" attempt, and I shaved a whole second off between the 2nd and 3rd). http://img594.imageshack.us/img594/9796/oxuz.jpg And I didn't look at your map until after, iMiPi. Very similar of course, but with one major difference. I'll save my map post as a spoiler if necessary.
@Lyndon re Jul 14 Nothing special I thought. Two city moves (one was trivial right at the end), two drones, and 5 blasters to punch. I have an image but imageshack seems to be having technical difficulties right now. Regarding upgrades, I think I disagree on the choices others are making; I usually choose 10% cheaper 1st, 10% production 2nd, and then #3 depends on the map... but I can't back that up empirically.
Excellent use of relays, coolpapa. I was happy with my 3:23 until I saw you beat 3 minutes, so I had to try. Could - not - do - it. Not until I looked at your map then did I see the relays jumping the creeper at the last plateau (I had been trying to fight through it). Brilliant. Sub-3 minutes was easy after that. This is why I like when people post their times and maps. I like what chilese did recently too - create a specific set of restrictions and issue a challenge under them. I wish I could upvote some of his observations more than once (his reference to me excluded).
OK, 4:50 for Jul 14. Got that monkey off my back ;-) Any other game recs in this style anyone? My all-time favorite is/was DesktopTowerDefense v1.5, with CW1 being my second now.
I thought that 1:39 could be beat, combining my play with LydonC's... good job, iMiPi. Anyone able to beat 5 minutes on July 14? (I haven't yet, and not sure it's possible, but I'm having fun trying.)
I've been MIA for awhile iMiPi, but I thought I'd give your 1:40 on July 13 a shot (my play from that day was 1:59), and I got 1:39. http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/826/q0vz.jpg/
3:51 for the win, iMiPi! I won't try to beat that. I did use a mortar too, but just let it die at the end throwing its last bombs into the deep-deep. It was dead before the screenshot. And yes, the explosion in my graphic was just a collector dying. This is a perfect example of you being correct that there are situations where a mortar is more useful/flexible than a bomber.
You got me focused on June 25 iMiPi. 4:01. I must've come up with some superior layout-tactic (not just a slightly more efficient play). I think I could have done sub-4 if I had moved the city to get it closer to the last totem at the end (I never think of that in real-time). Spoiler: http://img853.imageshack.us/img853/1710/z9lo.jpg
