It would be far to slow to grant the player satisfaction about how much distance theyve covered; people wanna see that go up faster and faster. Similarly, having a massive speedometer racing up in meters per second is off putting, and could distract from the game, so it goes up in miles per hour to be slower and less distracting. Who cares if theyre not related in any way, no one came here for a physics lesson, they came to make a guy jump over shit faster and faster
