One of the good thing of high level items breaking on low level dungeon is it encourages transaction of low level resources in the market. So removing the possibility of high level item breaking might not be a good idea.

Keep all 3 heroes at the same level and level them at the same time. I only got those 0 stats gain if one of them is levelling faster than the others.
