eh. doesn't really stand out too much from other metroid-like games out there. I thought the atmosphere could have been the best part... if the music was better. the beginning of the track is really good at setting a intense scene but then the "beat" comes in and it becomes almost a club-track. ruins it. it's not a bad game, it just doesn't stand out. still better than that one Blue Knight game, though! 3/5
that said, i understand that the fact that the thing being shot from a cannon is santa is probably enough for most people to like this game. and that's fine.
just because it's in the same genre as Toss the Turtle and Homerun in Bezerkland etc doesn't mean it's as good as they are, so it's valid to compare this game and the others. not every game has to reinvent the wheel but at least do something different aside from change the graphics + add some weird bejeweled-like game. it's not a BAD game, just not one of the better ones of its kind. kind of like how those metroid-like games are getting old (unless they're really good), this genre is getting old too.
very bland. gameplay wasn't really fun (walk and shoot, virtually no skill needed), story wasn't entertaining (which would be fine if there was anything that made up for it), map was kind of unnecessary and exploration wasn't fun both because it's so linear. Walk to place, get item/kill enemy that lets you get to next place, back track in empty area because you killed everything already, rinse and repeat. Boss was hardly a threat so there is no reason to backtrack to get health boosters. It's not that the game is broken, buggy, or anything - everything works, it's just boring. It would have been better if you had focused on one thing: story, gameplay/combat, or exploration. As it is, there is nothing special about any of those three things. 2/5
what I like about this game - and the series in general - is that you can just TELL how much effort was put into it. Sure, it's not groundbreaking, the basic plot isn't too original, and elements of it have been taken from other games, but together everything works and not only that, they work very well. And while the story itself isn't exactly original, which isn't surprising considering it's supposed to be a sort of parody, the dialogue is fantastic and definitely some of the best writing I've seen in a flash game. Honestly, probably one of if not the best free flash games/series. 5/5
ok i give up: how the do i get the blue key? it must be really obvious but i've gone through the whole level repeatedly for the past five minutes, unable to find it...ugh
