extreme is unlocked for 200 kills on any other difficulty
thats playing for 15 minutes on easy if you do it right, maybe less

there is no 2 greens and a red combo
one green and one red make a laser rocket
2 greens will link to a chain and making the rocket very slightly stronger

depends on what your goal is
if you just want your checkmark on all the modes thats fairly easy(though getting 4000 kills on extreme can be hard)
if you want to be the no. 1 in the highscore (without cheating...) thats another page :)
hard is like extreme in reverse
it is really hard in the beginning but once youve got past that its basically like easy/medium

i'm guessing they stopped working because they could not kill the creeps in one shot anymore
so the creeps entered the screen, entered the range of the assisting turrets and the assisting turrets fired at the creeps instead of assisting the combo
to get the combo working only the turret that fires the combo can see the creeps
