played the game again and i got what it meant. doin what he tells u to do makes him happy but then u dont get much joy (a.k.a color) in your life. but if u keep disobeyin him he gets kinda sad but u get color.....i got this whole thing wen i was at the part where he said "Do Not Fail" and i kept purposely falling on the barbs.....then more and more colors appeared on my screen the more i kept failing. haha. good game.
