Just make sure a level is three stars before playing the next, and upgrade whenever you can.
Use your spells BEFORE you really need them. When you REALLY need them, it'll be too late to truly help
Can you adjust some of the Hobby times so that, once you've maxed out your reset boost, you don't need to wait months on end to level up? Like, three weks okay, but 70+ days for a single level? That's kind of.. yh
