As a Monkey Island fan I found the jokes and similarities quite amusing and the game itself is pretty tricky to figure out.
Nick reminds me of a mix of Guybrush (Monkey Island) and Stuart Proszakian (Sit Down, Shut up!)
Overall, I would give a 9/10 if there'd be 10 stars, because this is quite entertaining and very well done.
When I started, I saw the resemblence to Max Payne, but when it got deeper and deeper i thought I was playing Stick-Max-Payne, without the slow mo. I really hope you intended to "infringe" the Payne series.
