It was Antiem, 1942. Shots were echoing around us, and my buddy was hit first. I remember it so clearly. All it took was one shot, one bullet, and I watched the light fade from his eyes. I begged him to stay with me, but as I held my best friend, I watched him die. I’ve never been the same since then. There’s never a day that goes by that I don’t wish that it were me instead.
