@archerbob No one is giving you the best way out which is easy: F5. If you reload the page it reverts back to the last time you used stairs. Easy out for nearly every time you're backed into a corner. Here's the extra fun with F5: If you use a Scroll of Acquirement or Well of Wishing and don't like what you get just hit F5. Every time you use either of those you'll get something different. Hunting for a specific Staff or Charm? Keep on trying until you get it. The timer always resets to when you hit the stairs, too, so it makes the speed runs easier.
