Use Matt and use a priority upgrade on his secondary weapon, by far the best secondary weapon in the game, and since you can let your primary charge up in between blows, you can destroy screens of enemies in seconds.
I love how everyone complains the targeting system sucks, that's what makes this game challenging, and what makes it unique, is the targeting system. Can't take a challenge, go play something easier!
