Had 3 hearts and a shield and was instantly killed by something related to the blight matron on level 4 of 7. Tool tip didn't say anything about instant death. Could be a good game, but random one-shotting turns this into a game of pure chance instead of skill. Maybe that's what you're going for though.

Love this and all your games. I would rather see a continuation of "Diary of a Cat", though. You know, because cats rock!

Noticed that after 5 dragons the artificial difficulty kicks in. Enemies that I used to be able to wreck with worse weapons, I can barely hit with better ones. Not only that, evidently the laws of math are different in this world. I never knew that 9 was greater than 11. Funny how this doesn't happen in the lower levels. Had this game at 4 stars. Updated it to 1. Why ruin this game with an rigged die rolling system? Just having more dragons increases the challenge. /smh.

Developer response from RogueSword

The "artificial difficulty" you are describing does not exist. You are probably just experiencing a run of bad luck. As for 9 being more than 11, you probably just missed one of the attack modifiers. It would be crazy for us to rig the dice against the player - we absolutely do not do that. As you said, it is the increase in dragons that make the game harder - there is nothing else making the game more difficult.

After a long break I decided to give this game another chance, but the same things that I hate are still present. Namely the AI basically cheats past the journeyman level. I can do basic arithmetic, but somehow the enemy can hit me for more damage than it has resources. It can also play any card it wants without using any resources (or time for Endazu). I guess I didn't shell out enough real money on virtual currency to deserve an honest game. Too bad. If the AI actually followed its own rules, then it'd be a fun game. I know I'll be down-voted, but what else are fanboys and shill dev accounts for?

Decided to give this game another chance. Even comparing it to the Hell of pay to win games, this one is just as garbage as it ever was. AI literally stacks the deck against you if you win too much. I had two bone dragons in my deck and 3 games in a row had both on the draw, but only get 2 of my many death pillars during the whole game. Still, things started to go my way, and the game just starts changing the rules to it's favor. Plagued creatures not dying, playing cards without the required quanta, and going through shields. Down vote me all you want. It still doesn't change the fact this game is utter trash.

Level right after you get Zack starts off with 2 rail car zombies that you cannot possibly kill since your specials aren't active and 2 Zacks can't do enough damage. Seems really cheap and cheaty, or just really poor design. Otherwise a rather fun game.

Year 49, attacked by 20 knights and 90 NINETY Swordsman. You are pretty much forced to pick a belief that will give you a chicken or shrink scroll in order to stand a chance. Seems fair and balanced, right? Basically this ruined an otherwise 5-star game for me.

I think I've deciphered the runic message "Mu Databank Studiocime com" Took me a while to figure out they were a variation of the Medieval Younger Futhark runes written backwards. Can't wait for the next episode!

5 stars all the way! Great game, but I have this feeling of deja vu. An abandoned research base from the 60s where everyone has died, a female AI that the humans tried to turn off, and references to cake...I kept expecting to see someone running with a portal gun on one of the camera feeds. Still trying to figure out what the runes translate to. First word is Mu, but it doesn't help that they come from different origins and some are backwards. I really want to know the message!

Some adjustments that would help make this game more user-friendly: Abilities, spells, classes etc. that you've unlocked remain visible with their prerequisite stats on subsequent play-throughs for easier planning, Holy requirement for paladin should count bonus from starting as human for unlocking (probably should count priest bonus too) as 1000+ xp is a little steep just to unlock a class. Explanation as to how stats work exactly. What does a hit of 5 mean? is that 5 out of 10, 20, 50? If you're going to make the game "difficult" then give players the tools they need to properly plan their strategy. Also, please get rid of or change how abilities can take the place of plain attack because it's difficult to tell when it's been accidentally activated until it's too late. Getting rid of auto-xp/leveling as the default would be nice too, but not critical.

Developer response from RatzNGodz

unlocking knowledge if definitely on my todo list. For hit values, you can use the "full combat log" in the settings to get more information (there is also a flag for default auto-xp). Efficiency depends of the defense/resistance of the target. I am not perfectly happy with how paladin works, but I do not want race begin too important for which class is available

Case in point to what others are saying. Kill everything in the sewers without a problem, upgrading con and other survival skills instead of class level. Start next stage and get immediately killed by a black bear that does insane damage, and I can't scratch even with improved combat abilities and green/blue weapons. Making poorly designed impossible situations doesn't make a game difficult, it just makes it plain un-fun. There's no joy in winning when you know it's just because the game made a random decision not to kill you. I'll keep looking in, as this game has potential, but unless the dev stops blaming the flaws of the game on low player skill then there's just no point in continuing with this game.

Developer response from RatzNGodz

Bear enters rage for a couple of turns once at half life. Do not stay close (they are not quicker than you). Of course I can remove most of the monster's abilities, make the bat slower, the blob stay in close combat and the fairies not buff everyone. So you can apply the same strategy to all the encounters. But it won't be the same game. I've abandon the hope of making a wide audience game. I deal with the poor rating. I still listen to complaints, I have several gameplay change for the next patch that comes from player's comments (paladin class, summons, warrior's starting package). It is hard for me to spot true unfairness, especially when there are players already stronger than me at my own game :)

Has potential, but too many frustrating aspects to be really fun. One monster of the same type in the same location may have 2-3x the HP of it's brethren. Also, the miss-fests, even when you've upgraded you stats, make playing a melee character a masochist only activity. Tower of the Archmage is a much better rogue-like as your skill and creativity, instead of blind luck, determine how well you can do. Luck-based rogue-likes = bashing head against wall imo. Make some improvements, and this will be a great game though.

How about some way to manually save so that we don't lose progress from quitting through main menu. Kind of messed up that I can lose a whole floor of progress because the game just decided not to save, then die to a fluke. But by golly it saves that death immediately. :/ If you're going to make it a true rogue-like then it should save your progress where you quit, just not when you die.

Have the walls turn into monsters a bit sooner. It sucks to know a monster is there, but it only jumps out when it's impossible to avoid the hit. The cheap hits ruin what would be an otherwise fun game.

An old-school button masher. Too bad there's a significant delay from when you press a key until your character actually performs the command. It's fun for about 5 minutes, but quickly becomes boring and frustrating when the nostalgia wears off.

5 stars all the way. Easy, but one of the most interesting and engrossing point and clicks I've played. It reminds me of "The Neverending Story" so much that I half expected to see Falkor flying by. I'm also glad the guy from A-ha's "Take on Me" video was able to find work as the detective. We demand more of this greatness. Cats are awesome!
