Ok, some tips for the start: after the young mage contest (you should have upgraded a little bit of your mana to win it, ca 3-5 skill points) look at the wilderness of Chaos Desert (where the contest were). you can get some extra skill points if you choose the spell scroll. after that try the fights in the arena. If you loose (the enemy is too strong), you still get 1 skill point, like in the mana cave. if you win, you get 2 skill points and a higher ranking. So always a good deal.
The strongest clan is chaos desert, the easiest at the beginning is great sea, because at the beginning your enemies and you don't have much mana, but this changes later in the game.
