This game has absolutely no variation to it. No matter where you hit the ball, it will always bounce in a preset direction. This results in each and every round in each and every game to be EXACTLY the same. The gameplay is literally repetitive. I'm sorry, but this actually is the worst pong remake I've ever played.
Overall, I have to (and hate to) say it's a 2/5, but don't give up on the game, just improve it. It should be a good game when the bugs are ironed out, and some other things (more levels, mute button, better aesthetic appearance, fixing the API so it keeps track of all the levels instead of the first two and the entire game etc.) are implemented.
I think that if you improve on it, it could easily get a 4/5, or even a 5/5, it's just very unappealing to me at this point.
(Also, sorry for the double post, but I could only do 1000 characters at a time)
The speed boost's are really glitchy. At first, I hit them, then a wall, and was teleported back to the beginning of the level, moving at extremely high speeds in the opposite direction I wanted to go. Then, after trying again, my monster flew over the exit, quickly, using the speed boosts, but didn't complete the level. Also, the walls don't even act as the proper boundaries. The potential for a good game is there, just make it less buggy.
Some other suggestions would be to not have the glue slow you down to as slow as you have it (make it faster), and to add a mute button, especially while using a loop.
I've also got stuck in a completely vertical direction too. It happened to me at the complete right side of the screen. Actually, I'm even writing this while the ball is still bouncing up and down. The angle the ball bounces shouldn't be entirely dependent on the ball, but the paddle too. That will help the problem with the vertical motion. It isn't particularly a bad game, it just needs some work with the bugs. Also, even though I personally don't care, a lot of people like mute buttons. I'll give this a 3/5 for being a fairly fun game, despite it's lack of the basics.
Also, I can't blame you for not implementing some features, and I can praise you for implementing the API, especially being new to flash.
It's a great game, one of your best. I found the level with the circle and spikes quite challenging, and was pleased with the originality of it. That's not to take away from any of the other levels either...
Way too buggy:
Bug #1: Right before clearing the right side of the thin gray line, you
teleport out of the entire thing.
Bug #2: Once the guard passes through the left side of the gray line, you automatically win if you click the door, even if you're not anywhere near it.
You should also:
Add something that tells you that you were caught (rather than instantly throwing back in the beginning).
Not say "Do not click while loading!"
