Make sure that you use the achievement points to boost your ships; I completely overlooked those and went on to build three ships of the line fully upgraded; every single time the Dutchman got me - I couldn't understand how I was supposed to win. I was about to leave the game in disgust, found the achievement points; duly spent them all and MASSACRED the Dutchman. Very satisfying. :o)
