The homing shots were a problem enough without them being the same color as that big blue circle on level 38. One could be passing right through it and you wouldn't know. I agree with others that this is really close to a good game but the level design and RNG factors make it into more frustrating than fun.
If you claim the game saves every 10 seconds but a crash can cause a player to lose 10+ minutes of work then something is wrong. Good luck with everything.
Game crashed. I reloaded the page. I lost over 10 minutes worth of gameplay. Also this isn't the first time this game has crashed on me. No autosave on an idler is a no-no to begin with, but it's even worse when it crashes frequently.
"being zombies, we went to go chill in the graveyard. and we cooked pancakes, to summon more zombies. we were all zombie friends, and a bunch of us fell in love. (zombies are totally polyamorous, btw.)" As a fan of this game series, and a polyamorous individual, too, this caught me off-guard in a great way. Thanks for the smiles. :)
Making you have to go back and forth and back and forth through level content you've already done artificially makes the game longer. It also makes things boring. I can understand putting secrets in these areas for the hardcore and/or adventurous players, but making it a requirement in an action game slows down the feel of the game, and leaves a very bad taste in my mouth.
My biggest issue with this game is when you start on a new level with an enemy nearby ready to attack you. If I click too early my dude doesn't ready his weapon, and the gameplay is too fast to notice this before the enemy is on top of me killing me.
My second biggest issue is how most of the "upgrades" aren't really upgrades. They make items available in chests. I want a bigger weapon all the time. I want faster movement speed all the time. I want access to a crossbow all the time. With levels that are so short and the random chance being so random, this means that even if I do find one of these "upgrades" in a chest I'll get to use it for approximately 20 seconds before leaving the level and losing it.
If you beat level 1 in Extreme mode, it unlocks Extreme mode for level 2, but it does not unlock Hard mode for level 2. Even after beating Extreme level 2, I still cannot play Hard mode on level 2. If I beat Normal, it opens up Slow mode for the levels above it. Why the inconsistency?
This game feels like it's more about luck (which powerups you get, if you get powerups at all, good runs of enemies in the right place, fewer mines, and those mines not near the enemies) and brute force (buying enough upgrades that give you the most benefit for your luck) than anything close to strategy. Case in point, you can hardly see what's coming up next in the vertical level. Also, the launcher upgrade sending you further with each upgrade is great, but the downsides is that it takes so long. I'm not even fully upgraded and I have to wait about 13 seconds from the time I hit "launch" seconds to actually "play the game."
So with no stats I am forced to toy with every combination of tower and upgrade to figure out which setup is necessary. Note that I didn't say "which setup is optimal" but "necessary." This isn't my idea of a good time.
This game needs a "wave select" or at least a "fun mode" where you can go back to earlier wave and play with the current skill points you've already earned and/or all skill points. For example I'd really love to try my hand at catching birds on earlier waves, but if I went back to do this I'd lose all my current upgrades. And as I go forward, the game feels like "work" and is quickly becoming un-fun.
The first questions I asked were "How many are left?" and "How many are alive?" along with "How do I leave?" It did not understand any of these questions. So much for "You may ask any question you have."
It is difficult to tell when things are selected and not selected in battle. And how do I tell them to stop going? I don't want to send 30 units to a base I've already captured.
The gameplay isn't fluid. The controls aren't obvious. And the sound is horrible. And I haven't even started talking about the balance and levels.
