as for what class, your main healer (I use Mar, the girl with the guns) should be a combination of healer + elementalist and trickster to get a really high magic skill, and speed helps a lot so she can heal more often [I focus highly on speed for ALL my party members]. I have two with strong physical attacks and two with high spells. my other spell caster has the weapon that gives the item speed boost, so I avoided healer with him and use him for the panacea (cure all) and heal potions. the other two I use for physical attacks and their charge abilities. Lin, with the Daggers has an area of effect ability… and she got the dice for stealing.

can’t tell if you’re asking about the class tree or the stat/ability tree… it’s kind of the point of these games to play to your own personal style. I strongly recommend to always pick hit points over attack or magic or speed, as it is easy to raise these (especially attack) with stat boost items [potions] and upgraded gear, but it is hard to increase max health. my heroes all have more than 2000 health and still get killed by one attack of the last boss.
