Ballroom Dance needs to be fixed. It wasn't difficult, it was broken. I knew what I needed to do, but the acid kept leaving one person alive. Maybe it was that I wasn't hitting the exact right spot, but a level shouldn't require perfect accuracy.
I thought the movie parts with the king really brought the game down. Shadow was great because nothing was specific; it was almost like a dream. The animation during those parts was terrible in comparison to the game, too; it looked like a cartoon on Newgrounds. This game would be much better with those parts redone to force less storyline and be more vague (visually, as well), but even just removing them completely would bring this game up.
Not sure what the difference is between Brilliant and Excellent. Is it the amount of resources used? That's kinda bad, since I tend to use more earlier on before I know how I'm really going to do. However, I can just go back later, which I love. The game has some difficulty, but it's not terrible (though I haven't finished). So far, 4/5: I'd like separate music/SFX mute; the graphics are about 85% good; and ninjas do seem a little unbalanced, because sometimes an otherwise good build might get screwed by the 5 second invisibility.
The graphics are very ugly and the interface is unfriendly. By the latter I mean it never tells you what units you have; you have to learn simply by seeing what is created when you train new units. But then battle comes around and the units are slightly new, and you have to just figure it out again. The battle, though, was really bad; there's nothing exciting happening, and "controlling" it is a waste of energy, especially considering how difficult it is. Also, battering rams are awful. They don't really make a difference in a fight. 2/5 for a good concept. One thing that may be a bug - if newly trained units can't act on that turn, that's fine, but shouldn't they be able to defend their territory in an invasion? It's very frustrating to build 5 units only to completely lose them because the enemy attacked while only your skeleton crew was "active."
Pretty fun, but it was extremely disappointing to have the first level be a second tutorial. The real problem is the story - it doesn't really make much sense. The conversation is really annoying and seems forced. Also, if the city contained the last humans in the galaxy, why was there a sudden report of attack on some far-away planet? That guy's family was already dead. Cut way back on the story and it'll be a more fun game, but the story is not good enough to improve on the enjoyment.
Sometimes red herrings get counted when a piece displays how many clues are adjacent. If this is intentional, then: Sometimes red herrings don't get counted when a piece displays how many clues are adjacent. This makes it difficult to play. Otherwise, the game's pretty good, although not very pleasing to the eyes.
I also noticed that the turn order is really screwed up. Sometimes a person will get two turns in a row at the beginning. I've lost battles because of this.
Alright, once you figure it out, taunting is less dangerous, but morale still needs to be fixed.
Also, archers need a lot of work. It's hard until after the first battle to understand how to use archers well, and even then shots that appear to be perfect end up "ok" or "poor," and some that look wild get you a "good" shot.
4/5 to not bring it down. Needs work, but I love the idea and it's implemented well enough for a first try. Another would be great! If another one is made, there should be more maps available. A new setting would also be fun.
One last point: I would prefer to be able to attack vertically in melee, but I don't think that should be changed if you really like it in its current setup.
Taunting BLOWS. In the first battle, I was up by over 1200 men. I sent my king to battle one of the earls. My king died, but the earl ran away in fear. Even though my morale was about 60 and my enemy's 39, my morale dropped so low from a king dying to WIN a fight that my most crucial Varyags ran away, and I ended up losing the battle to about 300 Englishmen calling me names. I was about to come and say what an amazing game this was until that happened. I'm going to give the battle one more try before I quit this game.
This was a terrible game. Nothing interesting about it, just stupidly exaggerated sci-fi morals. I was thankful to die at the end, because the alien was moving way too slowly, and there were no other controls. It was entirely left-right movement and watching stupid humans take an entire 3 seconds to mourn their dead family before moving along with the alien that got them killed.
I played the first one and it was pretty good. This one is awful. Way too much is dependent on exact placement/timing, so that having the correct idea isn't enough, you need to waste 15 minutes on guess and check, or give up because you think you must have the wrong idea. Yet some levels are completely the opposite, so easy you only need to use half of the pieces given. I was very disappointed after my enjoyment of the original.
Nevermind, beat it right afterward. Good game, but it seemed to me that the falling ceiling and the very end were much more difficult than the rest of the game.
