Too many numbers and words make them seem random. It's almost a guessing game (guess which numbers are important, where do you use them...).
Song badly chosen for a thinking game. Had to mute.
My suggestions:
1. Add some hint text to the upgrades
2. Sorry about that, but the controls suck. Maybe they wouldn't be so annoying if you used arrow keys for moving and some other keys for pumping...
3. Eight directions instead of four
4. Something (maybe some animation) to show you when the water hits someone
