Finally beat it on very hard, including a year 51 victory! Did it as Russians, probably took 100 tries as 6 different classes...(most over in less than 5 minutes)
I found about 50-60% of the maps could be won in less than 30 seconds just by rushing pretty any assortment of ships with no economy. After physics labs it was all about spam, made it a lot more fast paced, however, I found that if you got a few hundred or more ships on the field the game could lag bad, perhaps a ship limit?
The top 100 difficulty star was the hardest, took me near as long as the last half of the game did. I never bothered using any: frost, bio labs, acid, shock things, or the bio lab, might of helped I guess? After a few dozen attempts I ended up using constructors to expand to the bottom right, killed my starting building and my first constructor. I built 2 miners, 2 reactors waited for shipyard and build annihilators... Sort of a cheap way to win I guess but all else was failing. Red is a scary beast.

Finally beat all the levels! There were a few pretty tough ones, had to use very different strategies on a lot of maps. Very interesting, very different then a lot of games like this.
For little forest fill the first row with alternating phys/energy warriors and the very top spot place a wizard and upgrade it with as much debuff as possible. I made all the warriors have concentrate and go tactician and focus only on damage and I didn't lose a life.
