I'm really digging the simplistic yet addictive idea with this game, along with the catchy chiptune music! Wall jumping has to be one of my favorite moves to do in games.
A game that combines shmup mounts with side scrolling platforming and RPG quests with a large tree to upgrade your abilities, starring a blue elephant who shoots lasers from a cannon mounted on his back, all on a quest to get back his awesome hat? THIS. IS. AMAZING.
This game's worst enemy: slow down. On the final level (eight), there are just too many Blinder Ninja that appear and it prevents me from being able to type anything in, not because I can't see but because when the slow down occurs the game literally doesn't read my keystrokes anymore, so then I take needless shuriken hits. Wonderful concept (love games like this ever since "The Typing of the Dead"), marred execution. 3/5
After playing through the first "Sonny", I can't believe how much of an improvement this one is. The storyline is much more cohesive and I have to say I like the music more overall as well (though a couple of the battle themes in the first one were quite nice). The only thing I was a bit taken aback with was the fact that the classes have completely changed. I really enjoyed playing the Assassin class and had worked so hard to get those rare items and upgrade my weapons and armor, only to see... Sonny wearing his old clothing and carrying the old lead pipe again?! Aww. If there was only one thing that could be improved with this game, it would definitely be allowing the player to import prior weapons and armor to this sequel.
I perfectly timed a parachute bomb to hope to see it land and roll forward on what I thought would be the front slope on "Weak Foundation", only to see it fall through the ground. That was... unexpected. ;__;
Precise controls and well-designed physics made this a treat to play through. I really enjoyed the precision of using the mouse to aim exactly right where I wanted to without needing to worry about some kind of projection/power meter, something I haven't seen in many other "destroy the castle" games. I hope there will be a sequel!
It's been a while since I've played this type of a game and it was nice to play one that IMO captures the old-school feel of arcade schmups that got my twitch reflexes pumping in full gear. The final boss has quite an "F-you" attack pattern with those bullets scattered constantly in crisscrosses all over the screen! I think the game presented a fun challenge because the types of enemies in the later levels and the patterns they appear in during the later levels ensure that you need to have the skill to dodge the enemy bullets if you want to get that "Laser Chargin'" Badge, no matter how powerful you become. Nice game! :)
That final boss was pretty amazing, in no small part because of the awesome Sonic 3 final boss music remix. My favorite level had to be the one that said "Up" on it, that was a pretty clever idea. Nice game!
I really wish this game had a save file and a way to switch controls for moving around and aiming to be done solely by the mouse and mouse buttons or use the mouse and rotate left/right with two keys because it's preventing me from enjoying the experience much. After I complete the Beginner Quest, I'm going to try the third one and hope it's a lot better. :\
Games like this one make this the best online game site I've ever been to, ever. I love the idea of catching notes! Now to see if I can't get that 100x ending...
