Would be nice to have a detailed character page like in the previous games, where you could see how all the equipment, stats, and attributes affected your combat.
Very nostalgic game, good work. I thoroughly enjoyed it.
Not sure why so many people seem to be having so much trouble with it, though. Patience and an ability to spot patterns are really all you need to complete it successfully.
I loled:
1: I unnassigned all the employees except 1 marketer and the receptionist.
2: I destroyed most of my rooms.
3: I activated the two most expensive promotions.
4: I closed all my amenities, and waited for my approval rating to drop, as customers flooded in and had to wait forever - just wade through piles of shit in rooms without room service.
...my daily earnings almost tripled.
To be honest, the gameplay itself was pretty lacklustre for me - the graphics were just o.k. and the game itself wasn't really challenging. HOWEVER. I played through the whole thing, for the simple reason that the story and the characters managed to captivate me in a way that few games do these days. It got to the point by the end where I wished I could skip the gameplay entirely and just watch the story unfold without it.
I applaud you for making this game into what it is, and I encourage you to continue pursuing this kind of thing. Perhaps you could make the gameplay look and feel a little nicer (maybe speed it up a bit, too), but I don't think I would care about that much, so long as you continue to do such a beautiful job with the storylines and character depth. Beautiful work.
After getting to 30 floors of nonsense and a 5 star rating, I fired all my employees, removed all my elevators, and destroyed every square of the hotel. The dozens of people who were stuck on various floors could only complain about the lack of reception and that there was nobody cleaning rooms. I urged them to jump, but it appears they would rather just stand there and hold their breath. What a bunch of whiners.
It would be nice if you could build turrets without the marine included - if you reach pop cap the only way to build a turret defence is to kill off one of your men. That's a problem.
Also, when DEM is thrown by an explosion, it shows him holding the standard rifle regardless of what's actually equipped. A minor detail, but something to consider fixing.
Aside from what nshelton2 and AlienLance also pointed out, this was pretty solid! I'm excited to see where this goes.
ok, I've fixed this, but just posting so others can maybe be helped by this. For one, i found that if I had the instance name of the ship the same as the class name, the ship was no longer recognised by the class and didn't move anymore. To fix this, I just renamed the ship instance, and it worked fine. Second, the enemy ships kept blowing up as soon as they spawned - this was a result of my being careless and putting a ";" after the if statement for the hit test. hope this helps somebody.
@ CrownRock:
Make sure that you are placing the script that adds to those variables under a "function onEnterFrame" section and not under a "function onLoad".
@ zuhayrahmed:
I had the same issue with my Ship class. Check one more time that your spelling is right, as well as capitalisation. If it's still not working, change the name of the .as file to match the name of the class.
Hopefully this helps.
