I like the game. As far as a sidescrolly upgrade shooter dealy goes it's a lot of fun. The primary difficulty is that shop inventory updates too quickly. I never seem to have enough money to actually buy anything.
I really enjoy the fighting and upgrading and skills etc. etc. but without the ability to save the game it's pointless if you can't do everything in one sitting.
The game has fun 2D dogfighting mechanics and it seems like there's a ton of stuff to unlock, harder difficulty modes for missions, etc. But without the ability to save our progress we're either expected to beat the game in one sitting or leave our browser running until we finish it, and that's just not feasible for a lot of people.
By the way, there were bi-planes in WW2, the Fairey Swordfish saw service until 1945.
Really fun little shooter. For extra fun, get someone working as an assistant and both machine guns :D Shoot 200 bullets, switch guns, shoot 100 bullets, repeat ad infinitum.
Step 1: Buy a ship with 4 weapon slots. Step 2: Buy the homing rockets. Step 3: Park your ship at the bottom of the screen with autofire on. Eternal victory is yours!
Further areas for improvement: 1) Let players know they can access the map by clicking the compass (it took me two hours to figure that out). 2) decrease how much the price of trade goods can change between stops. Perhaps make it so an item can only go up or down by $10 each stop. 3) Let us know what each of the upgrades do. I'm pretty sure the sails upgrade improves speed, unless it improves turn speed, but what do the other two upgrades do? Does the cannon improve reload speed, damage, range, or what? Does the hull upgrade improve cargo capacity or hitpoints? There's just no way to tell unless you buy them. Otherwise, I love this game!
So far this is a pretty good game. I enjoy the naval combat, the graphics are nice, and the interface is good. However, my biggest complaint is with trade goods. I left Barbados when sugar was going for 150. I made one stop at another island to pick up sugar going for 110. By the time I made it back to Barbados sugar was selling for 100. This kind of rapid change in prices makes trading pretty much impossible. Otherwise, great game!
This game only gets attention due to the "edginess" of the content. If it were of a different theme, no one would pay it any attention thanks to sloppy controls and poor balancing.
I had the problem with the autosave but I fixed it by right clicking on the game, going to "settings" and raising the amount of disk space the game is allowed to use. Now, it autosaves just fine for me every time.
Very nice game. challenging without being impossible, good graphics, not too slowly paced. It could use a bit more variety in the weapons but so far very good. 4/5
