This satire conveys a very strong message, but it's not the message advertized by the game title. The game isn't so much about censorship as it is about dictatorship. With an overall motif of paranoia and anarchy, reminiscent of 1984, the game sends us a straightforward message: "We are not in control." This is a gross exaggeration. It is important to understand the significance of the rest of the story. For instance, the guide states, "You can only use [your freedom of speech card] during certain times and in specified areas." It's important to remember that this is not to suppress our rights; rather, we have to audit our speech to protect the rights of others. Yelling, "Fire!" in a crowded area will cause a riot and may potentially lead to people being trampled. Once again, this sends a strong message, but it makes excessive use of hyperbole.
Some of your loops actually cut the last beat short, they don't play at the same tempo, and they definitely don't sound good. The sounds need better tone, and the tuning is horrible. People wonder why there are so many "hate comments," but they don't notice these glaringly obvious problems.
I like the clever remarks about love. In infidelity, when I lost and it said, "It seems like you'd get more happiness but in the end it's just less enjoyable..." how true that is. I love this game (pun not intended) But I think it needs a few more things, like dynamic background music, perhaps arpeggiating through the chords you start to spell? Also, it would be nice if it automatically fixed the relative tuning of the notes... because they sound a little out of tune when you have a really complex chord. A larger range of notes would be awesome! Just a few suggestions. All in all, I love the game!
The soundscapes on 1-5 and 11-15 are great, but 6-10 are sub-par. The gameplay is very clever; I love how well everything meshes together. All in all, this was a very well put together game and I think that if you perfected it you could possibly even market it for an app store or something.
This game plays wonderfully off of the success of many old genres of games. It has immersive storyline, fun gameplay, and brings back waves of nostalgia of the vertical shooters from the early 2000s.
