Either I'm too dumb to find it, or the rewards from to-be-nerfed gems doesn't show anymore... did it disappear in the latest update?
It's a graphical bug. You still receive the items, they just don't show. It will be fixed in the next update.

Nate's defend absorbs mana from magical attacks. Good to know, just wish I hadn't discovered it so late in the game.
