A weekly cycle was fine in the beginning when the game was fresh out of the oven and lacked both items and features. Now that the game has been considered feature-complete for a while, and has over 300 items already, it's simply harder to add things while keeping it interesting for both myself to develop, and the players to play. A longer cycle allows me to add a couple brand new larger features (or overhaul the existing ones), as well as a sizeable batch of new items.
