Bug: If your hero already has a certain factions advanced unit, using the advanced unit scroll will not change his advanced unit.
Example: Fire hero, Council of Magi.
Advanced unit = Spellsword
Apply advanced unit scroll purchased from mountain man
Advanced unit = Spellsword
repeat ad infinitum without effect.

The key to winning (esp. at later levels) is to save your big spells until the enemy sends the hord (after you hurt their castle), then smash them with your big AOE spells.
Pretty easy. I reached 1592 meters on my second try. Just use common construction techniques that you see all over the place (i.e. diagonal crossing beams) and you should be fine.
Humanity has absolutely NOTHING to fear from these aliens. They are slow-moving, technologically-inferior, and apparently mindless. With the advent of Tesla technology we can apparently fry them at will...
So I don't get the story at all, how did they defeat us?
