I know why we can't fly over mountains: the ore cyronite is found deep inside of mountains, and the cyronite you pay for ships is used for the boosters, and cyronite - as soon as physically changed in shape - will explode if it is in a radius to close to other amounts of cyronite. The cyronite inside of enemy ships is lower, making the radius less effective, meaning enemys can be rather close together before exploding.
