I feel like the ice cave level was a bit of a misstep. Trying to make out patterns in ice in black and white made my eyes cross. Overall though, really enjoyable.
It feels like the upgrades should be a bit more noticeable. I got everything upgraded completely, and while the health increase was obvious and defense may have been noticeable, the collection radius was still so small I had to run directly over anything I wanted to pick up and everything took basically the same amount of time to kill. Maybe if you decide to redo this or make a sequel at some point, make it longer and the upgrades a bit more dramatic?
Maybe I'm just terrible, but I could not get past one of the levels. You can't fly straight up, as far as I can tell, and there didn't seem to be enough room between the enemies to get up in the air. I think it might have also been better if we could choose when to use our "float", instead of it being automatically used every time we move. But the style's great, and the controls are tight, and the hitboxes seem to be spot-on, so overall, pretty great :)
That was quite fun. My only real complaint is that the way the enemies turn around seems a bit too "sharp". It's difficult to judge when they'll turn around, and there's no warning. Didn't make things too painful, but it seemed a bit messy.
Ok since everybody seemed annoyed by the sharp turns, I fixed it so the ennemy takes a short break before turning back. I hope this will make the game more comfortable to play. I also added WASD control and fixed few other things.
I was kind of expecting crappy gameplay -- most games with a message are sadly lacking in execution -- but that was actually quite good. Controls were tight, hitboxes were accurate. 5/5. Let's just hope they don't try to sue your pants off.
I LOVE these sorts of games. Wish there were more on the site. Some suggestions, though. It'd be nice if it were easier to get exp. Not TOO much easier, I get that we're supposed to treasure our skill points, but maybe have it so we're guaranteed at least a couple each Descent. A tutorial level would do wonders; I still can't figure out why I can't rest at times, I didn't know what certain squares were or did until I ran over them, and I had no idea what the buttons to the side did for quite awhile. Finally, some indication of monster health would be nice. Fighting everything doesn't seem to be a good way to go about it at times, but beyond monsters -types-, there's no way to tell if I'm going to kill something in two hits or twenty. Despite these issues, 5'd and favourite'd.
Thanks for your comments - it helps to get constructive feedback if I make an update or sequel.
Fighting: The mouse overlay help gives an estimate like "You feel confident." and shows monster stats - if you missed it?
Jump worked for me, but not super well. It doesn't seem to want to jump the instant you click, so if it's a jump that needs timing, it's pretty much luck whether or not you'll make it. And wall-climbing was just...painful. Like, it's so iffy that I didn't even realize you COULD wall-climb at first.
But I love one-click games like this. Tighten up the controls and it'd be a 5/5.
More krampus-themed games, please! :D The controls are a little bit iffy and I wish there were a bit more to it (more levels, more objectives, obstacles), but really great for something with such a tight deadline.
Agree with Kuki, it is really good for a Stencyl game. Some of the hitboxes are a little off, and if I have one pet peeve in games like this, it's when you give instructions AFTER we need them. Granted, it was pretty self-explanatory, but you might as well drop them altogether.
I had a lot of problems with the green blocks. They disappear faster than I've seen in any platformer, which would be an issue anyway, but on top of that it doesn't seem to want to let you jump immediately after landing.
I'm actually not sure what everyone's talking about. The physics seem perfectly fine, but I'm using a mouse and that might make a difference. I'm a little bit in love with this game, tbh.
Haha, something tells me this will be received slightly less well here than it was on NG. Well, whatever, I still love it. Hopefully it gets badges here, too.
It basically has been :/
As for badges... I dunno, I'm not a huge fan of Kongregate badges, and if there are, they won't be as many as the newgrounds ones simply cause' that means I'd have to make 40 new icons (and program 40 new badges!)
