For anyone having trouble with the game not saving, you need to do a manual save, then close the browser window/refresh for it to properly save. Just using the save functionality on its own (either auto-save or a manual save) will not do anything, so your data will be lost if a crash occurs.
@Lingjc: Try going to the desert, you should be able to kill at least 3/5 monsters in the Desert (Ghoul, Goldgoyle and Fiend), these give you around double the EXP of the cave monsters.
