@werkam, you have to travel to a new universe after discovering one through gopher missions, then everything is reset EXCEPT your cosmium, shop purchases, edifacts, edifact upgrades and achievement bonuses
As you noted in your other comment, you do indeed lose your Specialists when traveling to a new galaxy. You will get a number of Edifacts based on how many Specialist orbits you completed.
