The kind of weird thing you can only find on here. One that looks far more unique than it plays, and doesn't do much to encourage reaching high scores, but is nevertheless something that should be experienced.
Played it a bit, and it's a decent 3-star game. Not much bad, and not much good. I liked that enemies could jump and follow you, as well as being able to Goomba Stomp them. That ability is present in (also free) Spelunky Classic, though. The latter also has far more attractive graphics, more levels and far more variety of everything in general. Essentially the only advantage of Blasting Agent is that it can be completed more easily and isn't addictive, because it's gameplay isn't interesting enough.
To clarify, I would give it 2/5 so far. If the level design was better and more creative, and if more disabilities were present (Color Blind that prevents you from seeing colour on crucial switches, for instance) it would've been a different matter.
Well, I played a bit of it before on Newgrounds, and it was enough to give me no desire to continue with it here. I've finished the Crippled path, and nearly finished the Illiterate one before deciding it wasn't worth it. After all, you get pretty much all the writing on the notices during the Crippled playthrough anyway, and there's little more story to be had with Spastic and Nearly Blind (basically none with Illiterate), so you're just left with crappy gameplay. Sure, Nearly Blind is unusual, and Spastic could've worked if you had an indication for the direction of each spasm (so that it's not pure trial and error like now), but Illiterate is plain old platforming, and so the same thing as in all platformers comes to the forefront: level design, which is uninteresting and full of cheap traps.
As for the story (everything below is spoilers, obviously) ... the moments where part X is lost end up more emotional then ending somehow. It's surprisingly difficult to say whether the sacrifice was worth it when we know so little of either the man or the woman. It just mentions assault... and we have no idea what provoked it, whether this was premeditated, crime of passion, inebriated, etc. We don't really know what they were like and what could've happened to either if the whole thing didn't happen, so it's unclear what is lost and what is gained.
I suppose the one way to think of the story to feel at peace is that it happened in USA and player character would've had simply died later at death row without his sacrifice.
When the arms got taken away, I thought "Wow, this is reminds me of You Are Disabled." The feeling was reinforced when further body parts were taken away. Then, though, I checked the dates, and it turned out this game came out half a year earlier then YAD. I'm not sure if Kcori took the idea from you, or if it's simply great minds thinking alike, but either way, I'm glad this game is nowhere near as frustrating and unfair as YAD was. (It's even considerably easier then Shine, which was a real surprise to me.)
Very cool prototype. However, it is just that. I wish there were more shapes to avoid then just those identical bars, and perhaps more bonuses. The lack of sounds/music is also concerning, even if the latter can be addressed by playing your own. (I would say Frozen Synapse's #5 Switch is pretty good out of the tracks I tried so far.) All in all, 3/5
My reaction to the final spike wall level: I...hate...sharp...corners...so...much.
All in all, great concept, even if I didn't necessarily like the enormous difficulty spike at the end. I would certainly be interested in a full-scale version of this. In fact, this has inspired me to plan out a version of this that would be easier (at least, on regular difficulty), but feature non-linear storytelling in the dialogue tree communication between player and the orb.
Imagine some of the telepathy conversation between Belgarion and Orb in Eddings' books, (assuming you've read them) as an example) but then also make the Orb less wise/knowing and more impressionable, so that its morality is altered by player's actions (kind of like what Shadwen tried and failed to do.)
The story comic strips are nonsense, and it could've done with more enemy variety, but the attention to detail in the environmental damage effects and footstep marks is neat. 4/5 for now.
Finished the first level. Looks quite nice, but it also feels rather cramped and mindless for now. It might open up later on, but so far I'm not feeling it like I did SkyE, or even Zero Base (these are over on RMN).
OK, the game is pretty awesome: writing is fun and a lot better than what you would expect at first place, and the combat system is well-developed and always offers plenty of tactical options.
However, I've stopped for now, right after defeating Lazlo. I'm the kind of gamer who can stop playing rather then go along with protagonists' crimes, and next mission doesn't sound like a good idea. :) I particularly don't want to potentially make life worse for a fellow pharmacist!
A pleasant surprise. Very much the kind of minimalist brain teaser with good balance between difficulty and reward. New here, but would say Kongregate needs more of these. 4/5
Well, I've played this for about 10 minutes now. As far I can tell, it's also kind of a "clicker game", much like Deterministic Dungeon I played recently, as neither leave room for much strategy beyond clicking to attack and occasionally changing attack/position/target. However, I can't deny that the graphics and sounds make it a pleasant kind of mindless distraction.
Eh, this is basically a clicker game. I guess it's part of the joke, but still, there's just so little to do, to think about, as there are no valuable choices to be made. Defend is useless on most occasions, so it's just attack, enemies only start differing in skills from the third set of floors, while player's only "skills" are scrolls with straightforward effects. There could've been so much fun with the intricate stat modifiers for items and enemies, one that might've made the game more like Diablo, but in an absolutely good way. Otherwise, it's so boring to get same 3 shield types and 3-5 helmet types for so long, along with all the totally useless weapons.
A 3/5, with the cute artstyle tipping it over the line into "decent" category.
