While this game looks fun, it has a glaring flaw that I'm seeing in a lot of games nowadays: lack of keyboard controls. For people who play games like this on laptops, having to use the trackpad for simplistic left/right, up/down control can be extremely frustrating and uncomfortable.
Keyboard controls literally take about 5 minutes to program in AS3, and they would make this game and games like it immensely more playable for people on laptops. There's really no reason to use mouse only control.
I hate to offer criticism that has nothing to do with the games actual content, but this is becoming such a common problem. I hope other developers see this too. There are so many games that look great that I don't even bother with because of this one issue, and I'm sure I'm not alone.
I'm really enjoying this game, but there are a couple of issues that could make it a lot better if resolved. First of all, I've had my computer crash a couple of times (overheating Macbook), wiping out my save data. Perhaps you could set up an autosave feature for every time you die? Second, it's extremely awkward to control with a trackpad. Keyboard controls would be extremely simple to implement and would make the game much more accessible by people using a trackpad.
Other than that, great work!
This kind of game definitely needs keyboard support. Playing this on a trackpad is really uncomfortable and awkward. Otherwise, it looks like it could be a great game.
Although I've really enjoyed this game, I think there need to be more items available in the store, as you reach the point that you can only upgrade through finding items and going to the blacksmith relatively quickly. Also, I think regarding blacksmith created items, there really needs to be more consistency or perhaps some way of influencing what kind of item is created. It takes a very long time to save up enough money for materials, but often the items that the blacksmith creates are useless to me and I feel that I've wasted a lot of time. This was a problem in Sands of the Coliseum as well.
This game would be so much better for laptop users with keyboard control. I really don't understand why so many developers don't spend the 10 minutes to add keyboard controls to a game to allow the numerous people uncomfortable using trackpads to be able to enjoy the game.
This is unplayable on a trackpad. It really only takes a few minutes to add the option for keyboard controls to games. Why would anyone want to play this with a mouse, anyway?
The AI is also kind of strange when your characters are set on auto. I've found that they won't use shield bash, and will instead just stand there using crowd appeal until they are killed if their main arm is disabled. Also, there seem to be certain situations on auto when they don't recognize when an enemy is disabled and will continue to attack it even after it's dead.
I think it would be great if you changed the reset stats penalty to either be static or based on the level of the character, or at least the compounding penalty should be tied only to each individual character. Knowing that I'm permanently raising the price for all characters is slightly distressing.
It doesn't really seem to be clear how to actually build or research things. I place the items in the research area and have enough money, but the button is greyed out. On the build screen, the green area is cleared out and I have the materials, but the build button does nothing. Am I just missing something simple?
