We're actually planning (not for the next few updates, but eventually) to add planting of trees and bushes. But, you never lose the bushes on the top of the mountain... and your city does tend to overwhelm nature :P .
I have only been posting major updates to the kongregate update feed (all updates are posted in our subreddit). This was because some players wanted to see major updates for the game, but not weekly updates (and the update feed sends a game message to everyone who follows the game).
It already exists - it's called sticky (starred) items. In the inventory, there's a small message that tells you that Q (when an item is hovered/selected) will toggle it.
