Put 10 magnets directly under your ship (9 in a 3x3 fashion), 1 below the middle-bottom magnet. Upgrade all to level 5.
Afterwords, just buy 5 lasers and max-upgrade them. They cross and can literally cover the entire map. I've got every upgrade and I haven't bought engines at all.
