The mother (witch) was raped and gave birth to a son. That older couple that she worked for took him and abandoned her in the woods. There she she learned magic. Eventually she makes a new baby who eventually falls in love with a girl. She grows jealous and fakes the girls death and scares her away. The girl starts working for the older brother of the boy. The mother finds out and wishes to make her younger son happy again. She brings the girl and her younger son back together and finds her older son at last.
Gunpowder was invented around this time and since China and Japan were so close to each other, the gunpowder quickly traveled from China to Japan allowing people to use guns and I guess mediocre jet packs.
