That quote was not by Einstein, it was by Oppenheimer, who was himself quoting the Sanskrit God Shiva (in an ancient Indian text called the Brahvad Gita). Einstein was very very upset with the use of his work to create atom bombs, and wished he hadn’t published. He was very remorseful and guilty until the day he died.
