This is a fine implementation of a well known and pretty worn game. It's good, but has too little staying power. The difficulty doesn't raise much, and there are no real interesting features added later to mix it up. Still a pretty fine implementation, clean and tidy. 3/5
Congratulations on doing a competent clone. However, it is still pretty much a clone.
Some suggestions:
- Change the art style completely
- Showcase your innovations on the formula front and center.
- Leave the most common mechanics of Monument Valley behind.
- Work on the level design - some of the levels are a bit meh. It shouldn't be. Each one of them should feel satisfying on its own, and unique.
- Work on your story - no story would be an improvement over this one - or tell the story through the game itself - with animations.
Great TD! I love the rpg elements, and the upgrades that last beyond one battle. Only thing I feel is missing are keyboard shortcuts.
Oh, and sometimes, tower placement squares are hard to highlight because of the scrolling arrows.
5/5 anyway
Make a great game, add some replay value, then ruin it all by making the end boss the worst *%$#! in the history of video games.
Honestly, this ruined the game for me. Ain't gonna bother fighting him any more. You lost two (useless) rating points for that ridiculously final boss. 3/5
Combine equal part:
- the frustration of adventure games trial and error
- the depth and length of a 10000 pieces puzzle
and you get: Doodle God
Seriously, this game has a good idea, and correct implementation, but the gameplay is terrible. Too many choices seem completely random, while a lot of other plausible arrangements would make sense and give out nothing. The only way to really finish this game is either through a walkthough, or incredibly painful trial-and-error. That describes a (very) bad game. 2/5
nice, but a lot of work for an old machine.
last level: rocket/spam the right minefield (rocket the defense planet after to allow passage), then rocket yellow fighter base to win yellow side, then move to lower right corner, then lower red base. Kill the rockets and fighters in the middle to gain that zone. The rest should be easy.
Being killed by the guy whose head you've just sent flying in the air should be a bad thing, a bug. It's simply awesome here.
Also, the broken legs do heal quickly: "Ahem, yes sir, your legs is broken and you can't move, but if you get hit by a sword, actually, it should heal instantly. The leg, the sword wound, you'll have to deal with it later."
