I have conceded the point that an iframe to the Runescape client on the RS site is not desirable, but if the client was instead hosted on the Kongregate servers, I believe there would be nothing to object about. The plugin a game uses to run is an insignificant part of it. show less

Aug 21, 2008 3:08pm I think we might have to agree to disagree here. As an aside, what do you think about Armor Games? They are well-known, well-funded, and their games are much better quality than those of other “indie” developers. Are the already “too well-known” to be on Kongregate? If not, how far away are they from being “too well-known”?

Aug 17, 2008 7:26pm Armor Games is already well-known and well-funded, and while their games aren’t as well-known as Runescape, it seems fairly arbitrary to decide that Sonny 2 would be fine to put on Kongregate, while Runescape is not. Personally, I like Kongregate because it lets smaller and newer developers display their work alongside bigger-name devs. Saying to any game “We’re not going to let you on the site because you’re too popular” takes away from that, and is really selling indie developers short. We don’t need to exclude already-popular games in order to give smaller developers a better chance, and trying to do so really takes away from the devs that already are competing with that market. The iframe thing is another issue, though, and I agree that it’s a concern, especially if we start to see more of them. show less

Aug 17, 2008 2:04am Interestingly, I think your prime objection is the one that’s invalid, and your secondary one is a potentially valid dispute. I don’t think you can object to a game being put on Kongregate because it is already well-known. Many games become very popular on NG and other places before being uploaded to Kongregate – and trying to say you’re going to allow those but not Runescape based on popularity comes down to “where are you going to draw the line between a game that is ‘popular enough to try and get quickly’ and one that is ‘too popular and doesn’t belong on this site’”. It seems a very arbitrary distinction, with a very profound impact. That said, the second point is really where there is a potential argument. But the question around that is, “would you still be objecting to a ‘game’ being simply an iframe to another site, if it was anything other than Runescape?” show less

Last I checked, there was very little meaningful discussion. That said, seeing as you appear to be the only person capable of stringing a coherent sentence together on the “Runescape should not be on this site” side, I do believe we can have a decent debate here, away from people who believe that repeating something over and over makes it true.Since this is more of a one-on-one debate rather than with the population at large, I would like to clarify a few issues before I make my response.~ Firstly, is your prime objection to Runescape being that it is already a highly-successful product? ~ Secondly, would you still be objecting if the game client was hosted on Kongregate’s servers?~ Third, would you have a similar objection if, say, Heli Attack 3 was uploaded to Kong by Miniclip?~ Finally, what about if instead of uploading the game, they used an iframe directed to Heli Attack 3 on Miniclip? I think I already know what your responses will be, but I would like confirmation before responding properly. show less
