This game is decent, but it's borderline ruined by the critical hits. Enemies will be doing 300ish damage and then randomly one-shot you with a critical hit that does over 1000 damage. It's hard to enjoy a fight when the only thing preventing you from winning is random chance.
This game is not good. Like, at all. The gunplay is awful. Even when I delicately fire 1 bullet at a time from the rifle, it is still inaccurate at best. The enemy guns keep blocking my bullets. The jumping is stiff, if your head hits the ceiling your momentum is killed and you fall to your death as a result. The enemies can see farther than you can, see you even if they aren't facing you, and fire more accurately as well. Explosions kill you through the wall, which is good to have when you need to bounce them off the walls in order to kill the 2 guys situated in the room underneath you. You definitely won't die a hundred times doing that. It's also real annoying that they have the option to turn the music off, but not the million obnoxious firing sound effects coming from everyone firing every bullet in existence in a matter of seconds. This is next level garbage.
I don't get the point in using snipers, machine guns, or mortars when you can just throw a bunch of infantry and assault at the enemy with tanks killing everything in the way, with an officer in the back to occasionally call support to kill enemy tanks. It presents these troop options like they're legitimate when most of the time my machine gunners do a piss poor job defending anything, and the mortar kills enemies so infrequently compared to the rate the enemy soldiers get called in it's like using a water dropper to stem the flow of a waterfall. There are never any good spots where snipers have any decent cover that's within their range of an enemy encampment, what usually happens is that my sniper will get in position, then dies as the enemy reacts by marching the infantry forward and immediately replaces them with another unit because their resource points are insane, apparently.
I do wish there was a speed up button. Sometimes you just need to repeatedly test things out near the end of a puzzle and it has you waiting each time.
The basic arrow is terrible for what it is. It's needlessly expensive to upgrade and the damage increase it gets is pathetic. The sub upgrades it has renders it completely pointless, because you are supposed to use them fast and repeatedly and using the sub upgrades costs mana. Having no mana is why the basic arrow exists, it takes no mana to use. But it takes no mana to use pierce, and the slice arrow's mana cost is so slow that by the time its cooldown finishes, you've regenerated the mana you lost and then some. The basic arrow needed to give extra XP, or do more damage to weak points, giving some reason to use it over other options.
This game is really boring. This is way too grindy and small of a game. In a game like Sonny, the grining you do is limited and you actually need to use strategy that requires thought, but anyone can realize you should use cold blooded with backstab, or use sucker punch on a magic user. It's way too basic and simple.
This game has decent music, a mediocre storyline, and horrible, HORRIBLE combat. Seriously, there are only 3 enemies types you'll encounter throughout the game. Wizards, rangers, and warriors. The climactic final battle is 5 people. 2 warriors, 2 rangers, and a wizard. It consisted of me baiting the warriors one at a time behind a sign to kill them because the AI in this game is trash and will just fire at your location with ranged attacks even if there's an object blocking projectiles, then exploiting the laughably overpowered rune of stone on my ranger character.
The one thing I have to say about this game that upsets me to no end is that it's freaking identical to hand of war 1. It still looks ugly as sin and has the most basic of animations. It feels like the bare minimum of effort. It was extremely boring, and I only finished it for the badge, which wasn't worth being bored to tears by it.
2/5 stars, this game is awful.
This game's cutscenes are sexy for flash game standards and it's addicting up until mid game, but there's no real challenge in the game if you play the patient and smart way. You have to intentionally blindly rush into enemies to get into real trouble. It's also hard to use other weapons since the shotgun is so freaking strong. It can knock down the giant zombies? What? A fully upgraded shotgun will put every other weapon to shame. It also started to drag late game. It needed far less weak enemies and more curveball enemies like the werewolves in early game and giants in mid game. Instead it just throws hundreds of outclassed enemies. Other than the issues I listed, it's a solid flash game.
The community gave this game a 4.1, which is a bigger tragedy than the game itself because that says that people want more of this. This game is a good example of why you should have reloading in shooter games, why you need good voices actors, if any, why not to have platforming (especially with instant death lasers) when you're game has terrible movement control, and how you screw up playing as different characters. Even for 2009 this was terrible, there's no excuse for how bad this is.
Everything is just as clunky as before and this is a lazy sequel that changed so little it might as well be a re-release of the same game. They didn't fix moving near your troops, they didn't fix the bad combat, you still can't select anything when moving, its lazy at best.
Look at all these comments, christ. This game is an awful mess. The weapon unbalance is obvious and it's gameplay mechanics are so wonky it screams Pay2Win.
In the few minutes I've played, I've never been so sick of people one shotting me because they happen to be 2 levels above me. If you have spare cash you want to throw away for no good reason, then this game is great for you! Otherwise, it'll frustrate and punish you for not getting their crappy funbucks from trading in Kool Kong Kredits.
The praise this game and games like Contract Wars get, even though they're awful shooters that are trying to make money off you through punishing you for not spending money seems to show that these people have never played a well designed shooter. I give it 1/5 stars, for being poorly designed gameplay, UI, and credit system wise, and for being an obvious grab for cash.
I appreciate that with the fallout references, you make the attributes spell out SPIEL, like SPECIAL. A few issues I have with the game is that if it's too hard to make the companions attempt to dodge with melee, the least you can do is make it so they're harder to hit or avoid large groups of zombies. I also hate that you can't hit zombies that you think are faking death or are in the process of getting up. The last thing I will mention is that I wish you wouldn't select stuff when you hit E to exit inventory, it's annoying to re-enter houses or search empty storage on accident repeatedly. Otherwise, it's a good game.
At some point the game has to stop toting the ,"Its supposed to be unfair," quote as a reason for why everything is tough. A PAK-38 isn't dangerous early game because it's tough, it's dangerous because your units would rather fire on a soldier behind it. The game can get extraordinarily frustrating, not because the enemy is dangerous, but because you and your fighters are way too limited.
