@ Developer: Maybe make enchantments affect the itemlevel of the enchanted item based on the value of the enchantments? Otherwise using level 1 gear to get skill points will probably always be the fastest way of levelling (alternate with vet items to farm currency to do larger enchantments)
@ 0078killer2: whether or not your skill level goes up much depends on the difference between your itemlevel and the monster level. After you get several quadrillion gold, get a set of level 1 items and then enchant them (1K energy regen on one, 1 mil max life on a couple of them, at least enough crit to reach 100% crit chance, and then damage on the rest). Equip them and go smash some level 10K monsters with your level 1 gear equipped. It's faster than killing 100K monsters with your vet items equipped.
I've killed 5 monsters on my current character and my vet items are level 2500. I know the update says they are meant to feel a little OP but at this point you just have to kill 1 monster every 60 seconds to keep them levelling at warp speed. Killing monsters faster doesn't actually help at all since it takes them so long to actually level up 1000X, after you've already got the requisite (exp?) for them to level up.
My suggestion is to remove the 200% strength increase per retire, and give players skill points = vet rank at the start of their game. Vet items fill a good role right now by making retiring a little less painful and helping you get started with your new character, they don't need to have endgame power. However unless you give them endgame power (or another bonus such as I described), there's no benefit to retiring. And as long as 200% strength increase per retire remains, the punishment for retiring is too heavy unless you also give a massively OP reward for retiring. 1 Extra Skill point per retire sounds like a really nice feature that would entice me to retire without being gamebreaking early, provided that the 200% strength bonus gets removed.
The last update punishes you insanely hard for retiring. Taking the scaling power out of Vet Items (refocusing them towards the early game, to help you get started) was a healthy change, but simultaneously making monsters 200% stronger per retire was too much.
It takes 2 years to get a vet item to level 5000, assuming you kill 1 monster/second, (total kills required to reach level n = n*(5*n +5)/2).
It takes 17 years to get a vet item to level 15000, assuming you kill 1 monster/second.
Since vet items can't scale quickly enough to remain useful, you're stuck using regular items at levels 5000+
Since retiring gives 0 benefit besides the vet items, and you aren't using the vet items anymore to fight the level 10000+ monsters...
You essentially make the game 200% harder every time you retire.
It seems my equation for XP is reversed on accident.
