Thanks for the implied compliment eurasianbro. I can't say exactly why the game runs faster for you now. It may have something to do with the game not using as much vector graphics as it did. I don't think the time spent modifying it for other people to work with is worth the time, but I'm happy to explain my methods. Just give me a pm whereever you found the alpha.

Funny how people can love/hate the story. It was based on Dune (the books people!), but reduced to what it is now, because.. well let's say I'm not that much of a writer ;)

Austin, I see that for some reason I didn't properly update the instructions here so you'd know about the cycle buttons. About the closely related balancing and cusomizing: I wanted to give the player as much freedom as I could, which has the obvious weakpoint of the curve not bieng the same for everybody. I have noticed that players use other combinations than I do (torpedo's, shield EMP and plasma), so the concept has succeeded in another dimension. The reactions here really have gotten me motivated to start thinking about a part two. It's a bit much to do this in a comment, but I'll probably have a blog post in a month or two about it.

Update: The friendly AI's iniative is now brought down to RTS conventions. I'm working on selecting targets using a selection box, but this has ran into a bug. I'll update again when I find it.

It took a while to get through my thick skukk, but thanks to dannyboy formulating it so clearly I'm finally getting what he, AlienKittyInc and CaptainSpaulding are trying to say: The AI is too independent. It should only attack when attacked/threatened or given the order. This is the convention of RTS talking, but I didn't think it would work for this game. May be worth a shot.

Quick fix for readability: I've changed the font and the background is now more contrasting (if that is a word). @AlienKittyInc The actual selection like that isn't that hard to implement. It's a bit harder to interpret which target the selection should pick if there are multiple targets. I'll get started on that. @CaptainSpaulding & OjisanKG Do you hold the key and then click on a target to defend/spot to move to? If so do you see a line indicating the AI has recieved the command or none at all? This bug didn't come up in beta, so any feedback is much appreciated.

Thanks for the comments guys. Didn't know people had trouble with the font. I'll change it as soon as I have time. If anybody could give me any insight to what they found annoying in the scrolling (too sensitive, too fast?) I'll get on that too.
