em,i've found a bit of a bug i placed a spirit trap and lured a red spirit onto it and it didn't get captured
Are you talking about the red floating creature that talks to you? That is not a fire spirit. If something is visible even without your goggles on, it is not a spirit and spirit gems will do nothing on it.
