I really would like to enjoy this game but it has so many glitches it will take forever before it's playable

Many people say charisma is the easiest way but for me all it does for me is move my opponent closer or farther which might help if I had ANY control over what my taunt does but I don't so other than getting a discount charisma seems useless to me.
