Tips for hardcore mode: 1) Never kill the same enemy twice unless you can one shot them. Althought I think this is inevitable once you reach the skeletons. 2) Don't overkill enemies (takes less than one shot to kill). 3) Kill as few blue skulls as possible until you get the pickaxe. 4) The sword in the torch room gives you 1xp per autokilled monsters, you MUST use it to farm levels or you won't be able to kill the old men.
@densch I think there's a comment somewhere that says what levels the purple skulls are. All levels are of the same shape, and not many have holes in them, so watch out for levels that are thinner than they should be or levels with holes.
For the hardcore, I just finished it. A few tricks:
1) Don't fuss too much about losing health to stronger enemies, as long as you can kill them. The math all adds up in the end where it doesn't matter if it take 1 or 3 hits to kill a monster. The real dangers are:
1) Killing the same monster a second time and losing health the second time.
2) Overkilling a monster (where you are 1 level higher than you need to be to do a 1 shot kill).
Near the top of the tower, I messed up a bunch and still have a few hearts left. So I think you can waste 6-8 whole hearts and still win hardcore.
suggestion: change the cursor to represent the current spell selected and whether it is ready to cast or not.
It's kind of annoying because you have to constantly keep your eye on the bottom left and you miss all the cool action on the right side of the screen.
How do you get past jupiter? I use horizontal jumps to gain speed (so much that the waves become a blur then even faster that they seem to stop moving) and then I grab 2-3 rings and go for a verticle jump and I only get up to jupiter and there's no way not to hit the ocean floor after that.
If the notes are off, try restarting your browser. I've found that sometimes sounds becomes off on my flash player if I have too many things running at the same time and the only way to fix it is to shut down all my firefox windows and restart it.
I like. But upgrades are buggy. A lot of the time when I try to buy an upgrade the level doesn't go up but the money gets spent. Other times the level goes down instead (from 2 to 1) but then goes back up to 4 when I buy an upgrade again.
wanted to do this, but flash's native cursor is giving me a headache. >_<
